Designers from Rihanna’s video Rude Boy revealed.

By now I’m sure everyone has seen the latest video from Rihanna, Rude Boy. The video is reminiscent of artwork from the Pop Art era and contains explosions of color – very different from the usual dark and grudge-glam feel of Rihanna’s previous videos.

The video was style by Rihanna’s go-to stylist, Mariel Haenn. Haenn talks about why this shoot was her favorite:

This shoot was one of my favorites, not just because I’m working with all my friends but because the creatives allowed us to pull the most ridiculous of things. Neon Pink Indian headdress anyone? Or maybe a head band with dollar bills? Bustier made of vintage records, sure why not. We got to custom make a few looks in there which is always fun.

Most of the Rude Boy’s costumes were custom, designed by Christian Louboutin, Mariel Haenn, Jeremy Scott, Boxing Kitten and Rihinna herself.

For the Drummer Girl look, Rihanna wore a one-sleeve dress made of vintage albums.

For the look featured throughout the video, Rihanna wore a black & sheer cropped top, fringe shorts and leopard, lace-up boots. Rihanna designed the fringe shorts, which features the colors of the Jamaican flag. Christian Louboutin designed the leopard, laced-up OTK boots. They’re an altered version of the Christian Louboutin Supra Fifre boots, which were released last season in black.

Stylist Mariel paired Rihanna’s gold catsuit with a leopard hat and pair of black & gold booties. The booties are the Raphael Young Eagle One A.

Mariel Haenn created the zebra-print cat suit by drawing on a flat mannequin, then having a textile painter transfer the image into fabric.

In this look, Rihanna wore a yellow & black animal-print inspired leggings and cropped top by Jeremy Scott (Solange Knowles recently wore the skirt version of this outfit while she hung out with Jeremy Scott and the Yo! Gabba Gabba! crew). Mariel designed the necklaces using printed fabric applied over foam tubing.

The corset top was designed by Boxing Kitten. The line was also recently used all througout Alicia Keys and Beyonce’s video, Put It In A Love Song.

And last but not least, Rihanna wore some gemetric print tights designed by the late and great Alexander McQueen. The yellow & black lycra tights currently retail for $635.

CELEB SHOES REVEALED: SAVANNAH BRINSON

Yes! The Chrissie Morris Sunbeam Cutout heels have finally hit the scene, worn by Savannah Brinson, Labron James’ live-in girlfriend. Recall, I recently posted the decadent heels, which contain stingray, python and suede and retail for almost $1,400.00. Great choice Savannah!

BEST DRESSED: ISSA ASYMMETRIC

I’ve been absolutely obsessed with this Issa Asymmetric dress. The dress looks like a 2-in-1 dress, with the top of the dress containing one long sleeve, with a slit starting at the elbow, and a cap sleeve on the opposite side. The asymmetric top of the dress is draped across the tummy. And the bottom of the dress contains a monochromatic animal print.

My single grievance with this dress is the open-slit sleeve. Issa is known for draping and kimono sleeves, but the designer should have resisted the over design of the sleeve on this piece. The sleeve would have looked great closed and fitted. Doesn’t take a miracle, just a tailor…

Ideally, I would love to see this dress styled with monochromatic accessories trimmed in gold. No necklace, just eye-catching earings, gloves and/or cocktail ring and simple, but stunning pumps.

Wonders who’ll be the first to rock this on the red carpet.

The dress retails at Net-A-Porter for $675.

PATRICIA FIELD X KEITH HARING

In conjuction with the 20th anniversary of Keith Haring’s passing, Patricia Field has released the Keith Haring by House of Field collection. The capsule line features pieces inspired by the late artists’ defining work.

Keither Haring started as a graffitti artist, who went from drawing on the black, unused ad spaces on subways, to an iconic artists of the pop art era. He was most known for his bright colors and bold lines. His works could be considered “art in motion” as figures seemed to move and pop of the medium, as if in 3D.

Haring’s most notable characters are the “Rading Boy,” which became his calling symbol early in his career, as well as the “Three-Eyed Face.” Both figures are heavily used throughout the collection by Patricia Fields. The pieces are priced from $72.00 (a scarf) to $840.00 (a corseted gown). Most pieces cost an average of $150.00.

So far my favorite are the Patch jeans, Radiant Boy dress, Three-Eyed scarf and the clutches.

GOOD BUY: KITSON OUTLET

A few weeks ago I took a trip to the Santa Monica Promenade at 3rd Street to visit the Apple Store. Of course a visit to the SMP isn’t complete without at least browsing the various shoe stores along the 3 block shopping area. In doing so, I spotted the Kitson outlet, located within the old Border’s bookstore location.

I hit gold! There were tons of shoes available for approximately 50% off. Among the wide selection of brands were L.A.M.B., The Reports (Report & Report Signature), Dolce Vita and Emilio Pucci, just to name a few.

I was initially smitten with the Elizabeth & James Linda caged pumps. The open toe, caged booties pumps are made with stingray leather, which give them a textured feel. There’s an exposed zipper up the vamp of the shoe. And it all sits on top of a 4-inch heel, which is my maximum heel height for a non-platform.

And unlike most 4-inch heels, these were incredibly comfortable on my feet. I had foot surgery a few years ago, so higher heels sometimes give me problems. I was strutting around the store wearing them with ease. I could easily wear them while I’m out running errands. Not really ideal for a full day at the mall, of course. My dogs are usually barking after a full day of shopping in my Vans…

The shoes were priced at $197.00, which is a GREAT BUY compared to the current price of $350.00 listed at Nordstrom’s, Bergdorf and Cusp. Shopbop also has them on sale for $245, which is a good buy, but not a great buy. I was very tempted to buy, but London cooing in her stroller brought me back to reality.

There was no way I was going to spend $200 on myself. Yes, I’m going through the “buying for myself is being a selfish mommy” syndrome, along with the “I want to buy my baby EVERYTHING” syndrome. I’ve eventually snapped out of this (stay tuned), but not on this day.

So we strolled on over to the baby area at Kitson. There I found some Ralph Lauren Espadrilles in various colors. They were too adorable to pass up this time. I had previously seen them for $40.00, but here they were priced at $15. BOUGHT!

They only had a size 3, so London will have to wait until Spring/Summer to wear them. I’ve since bought her a few outfits to pair with them. I’m sure she can’t wait…

FASHION GRADE: IMAN

Model Iman attended the amfAR New York Gala co-sponsored by M.A.C Cosmetics – the yearly event that officially kicks off New York Fashion Week. She wore a strapless teal gown that featured a pleated bodice.

The dress was perfect for Iman’s statuesque frame – it would have swallowed a shorter person. I love how her silhouette was perfectly displayed, even though the dress’ skirt flowed behind her. It seemed almost as though her long legs were displayed under a minidress.

Her snow storm-proof hair was pulled back into a pony at the nap of her head, leaving her face, long neck and sleek shoulders to be the focus.

What grade would you give Iman’s look? <– Considering that it was a snow storm, anyone attending would get an “A” in my book.

As we all travel and relocate, it’s usually nice to keep something around that reminds us of home. Well take a little home with you wherever you go with State Necklaces designed by Maya Brenner. The State necklaces come in silver and gold and are available in EVERY state. Yes, even yours. They’re big enough to be noticed, but the outlined design prevents them from being intrusive. Definitely a conversation piece.

The retail price for the gold bi-coastal necklace is $345 and the silver is $165.

NICKI MINAJ’S LOOKS REVEALED

Nicki Minaj was seen entering and exiting the “The Late Night With David Letterman” studio for her performance of ‘Shaking It For Daddy’ with Robin Thicke. On her way in she wore teal leggings, a character tee and fur coat. But her accessories are what stands out the most.

On her feet were the Guiseppe Zanotti fuxia platforms. The haute heels include pink, patent leather straps connected with an exposed zipper and feature a black lacquer platform and heel. The shoes were seen on the Giuseppe website (pricing unavailable). On her arm was the Louis Vuitton Manhattan GM bag in monogram canvas, which retails for $2,190.00. And on her face was a pair of Schubert Sunglasses in Black Diamond by A-Morir, which retail for $200.00.

On her exit from the studio, she added a pair of Robin’s Jeans Gypsy Stud jeans to the previous look. The jeans included a layer of gold pyramid studs exposed through ripped/shredded holes along the front of the jeans. I LOVE these. It’s a new and edgy take on the destroyed denim trend. The black pair currently retails for $442.00at Couture Candy.

For her performance with Robin Thicke, she wore a nude slipdress and bodysuit, with an applied pleat overlay. Paired with the dress wore the Giuseppe Zanotti Peeptoe Snake Platforms. The 5-inch heels include a snake and nude patent stripes on top, and both a hidden and exposed platform that totals 1-inch. And a detail of snake print hanging out, under the peep-toe, like a high-priced tongue wagging at us. The shoes retail at Bloomingdales for $695.00 and a closed-toe version is available at Barney’s for $650.00.

BEYONCE & ALICIA PUTS BOXING KITTY AND CHRISTIAN LOUBOUTIN IN A LOVE SONG

I came across photos of Alicia Keys’ upcoming video “Put It In A Love Song” featuring Beyonce at Neon Limelight. I immediately recognized the bold prints of Boxing Kitty. The brand is known for fearlessly mixing and matching multiple African-inspired fabrics, which result in unique pieces that have a vintage flare. And for even more individuality, designer Maya Lakes adds pictures of religious figures on the backs of some of her dresses. And not only are Boxing Kitty’s pieces of dresses, shorts and rompers unique, they’re also stylish, retailing for under $200.00.

And I’m sure you noticed that Alicia Keys wore some Haute heels. For her solo part of the video, Alicia Keys wore the Christian Louboutin Fernando heels in yellow. The strappy booties feature a 4 3/4 covered heel with a 3/4 platform. They’re a new take on the classic high-heeled sandals. The Fernandos are price at $925.00 and currently retail at Saks Fifth Avenue in black, nude or white. For her duet with Beyonce, Alicia wore the Christian Louboutin Ulona platforms. The shoe features multicolor suede and leather geometric print across the 1-inch platform and 5.5-inch heel and has gold-tube straps. The Christian Louboutin Ulana Platforms retail for $1,695.00.

I can’t wait to see the entire video, and not just so I can get a clearer looking at Beyonce sky-high stilettos…
