Louis Vuitton and Vanity Fair hosted a Sunset Cocktails event at the Louis Vuitton in Beverly Hills. Sanaa Lathan attended the event.  She wore a black Louis Vuitton cocktail dress with LV signature trimmed at the sleeves and a handkerchief hem.  She completed the look with a Louis Vuitton clutch and matching shoes.

I’m happy to see Sanaa hit the red carpet again – it’s been a while.  She’s currently a cast member on The Cleveland Show and just joined HBO’s comedy plot Tilda, which stars Diane Keaton.

When you think of couture, I’m sure Nicki Minaj is the last name to come to mind, but she’s rocked some of the best.  From Versace…to Stella McCartney…to Isabel Marant…to Louis Vuiton…to Alexander McQueen…  Yes, the biggest names in the business.

So for the 2010 BET Awards, Nicki went down the path of most couture cuties and choice a vintage look.  Her ecru dress had a lingerie feel with a bustier corset, dropped waist and tulle bottom with metallic trim – a distinctive look without all the bling and sex appeal that’s usually seen at awards shows.

Nicki matched a Prada-like chandelier necklace with the dress and an orange Marilyn Monroe-like hair-do.

My disappointment is with the fit of the dress.  The dress is straight off the runway and was made for a model, so it had to be altered to fit Nicki’s frame.  But it didn’t fit Nicki’s frame.  The dress looked as though it overlapped in the hip area, which made it seem like 2 separate pieces at first glance.  And Nicki was getting her couture pose on, which only highlighted this issue.

Nicki’s definitely took a chance with this Spring/Summer 2004 Rochas dress.  But it also insures that she wouldn’t be on any who wore it best lists.

Balmain’s rock-glam designs are right at home at any big music red carpet event, so it was no surprise to see a Fall 2010 Balmain dress wrapped around the body of signer Ciara at the 2010 BET Awards.  Her mini dress featured black brocade fabric with gold lacing throughout the body and down the sleeves.  The dress was also contained gold fringe that hung from the sleeves and Balmain’s signature bold shoulders.  And like all of Balmain’s designs, the dress is far from cheap – it retails for $22,225.50.

Ciara paired the look with Balmain lace-up boots.  The boots have previously been worn by Rihanna, Amber Rose and Kim Kardashian, among others and are currently on sale for $1,046.50.

Ciara didn’t get my best dressed of the night, but she rocked a hot look and was probably one of the most expensive looks of the night.

Actress Keke Palmer attended the 34th Annual AWRT Gracie Awards Gala at The New York Marriott Marquis on June 3, 2009 in New York City. I love seeing her on the red carpet, as she always looks grown and sophisticated. She’s maturing very well.

Palmer wore a double-strapped one-shoulder black mini dress, which resembled a Black Halo dress worn by Lauren London. She went purseless and paired the dress with snack print pumps. She wore her hair in a side bun with tendrils framing her face.

This isn’t the best I’ve seen Keke. There seems to be something missing here, mainly a little color on her face. But what fashion grade would you give Keke Palmer for her AWRT Gracie Awards look?

Actress Zoe Saldana attended the “Star Trek” Germany premiere on April 16, 2009 in Berlin, Germany. She looked like a doll in a red cocktail dress. The dress had a one exaggerated ruffled sleeve and single pleat across the skirt. And her black strappy stiletto climbed up her feet to her ankles. This is definitely a hot look for Zoe.

Yaya DaCosta attended the opening night of “August Wilson’s Joe Turner’s Come And Gone” at the Belasco Theatre in New York City. Actress Tatyana Ali attended Ball Up’s 1st Annual Street Ball Tour at the Dub Auto Show at the Los Angeles Convention Center on March 22, 2009. She wore a skin-tight, high-waist, blue, pencil skirt, a black and white stripped tank, cropped blue bomber and black pumps.

I can say right off, I hate the shoes; the bones are awful. Her makeup is just ok. But I love the silhouette of the look. Though, it’s not as popping with the jacket zipped.

Kerry Washington attended an evening with Neil LaBute and friends at the New York Times TimesCenter on March 23, 2009. She wore a sleeveless paneled shirt, gold and white printed, tiered skirt, and black Christian Louboutin pumps. She drapped strands of pearls down her shirt and wore sculpted hoop earrings.

Initially, I thought she had on a pair of dark blue pumps, or maybe that was wishful thinking on my part. It would have really set off this outfit.

Overall, I like, the look; it’s very Kerry. She known to be conservative, and never stray far from her roots. The only thing I’m not feeling is the oversize looking skirt, which is really apparent from a side view.

Free attended a live taping of BET’s “106 & Park: Relationship Abuse” Special at BET Studios on March 12, 2009 in New York City. She wore black jeans a ruffle jacket and brown top. She paired the outfit with a pair of white croc embossed Report Signature slingback pumps. Interesting look, to say the least. It makes me miss the previous Free that was always on-stage with a cute pair of boots.
