RIGHT & WRONG: CHILDHOOD CHARACTERS REVISTED

Author: MARLEAUX | Files under Men's Style, Right & Wrong, Runway

Designers adding cartoon characters to clothes is no new thing. It’s been done on runways, by high-end designers, down to the little corner stores in the hood selling Ficky Mouse knock-offs. Some designers know how to put their own hip twist on it and make it wearable for adults. Others fall short on the chic odometer and come off looking like a foreigner on their dream visit to Disneyland. Two Fall 09 runway designers took the cartoon character challenge; one got it right and one got it severely wrong.

Iceberg revisited the cartoon character trend, which they’ve done before. This time, using Disney characters. The sweaters are hot. I may need to get one or two of these for my man. I love the aspect of two-dimensions characters printed on both the front and back of the sweaters.

The designs of Jean Charles de Castelbajac were an act of cruelness. This is what happens when Cookie Monster is given a sewing machine as a distraction from his cookie addiction. I say let him have his cookies, and deal with the oncoming diabetes later. I’d rather deal with a few pricks of the finger myself, instead of seeing these designs again.

But Jean Charles de Castelbajac didn’t stop with the Sesame Street Couture. He also turned some of the world’s biggest stars into runway pieces. Though I love pictures of the vintage Michael Jackson, but as a dress… I.Just.Can’t…
