Golden Brooks, who made most of her money writing, directing and acting as Maya Wilkes on the CW network’s show “Girlfriends,” has put her Hollywood Hills home on the market. The contemporary-style 3,500 square foot home includes 3 bedrooms, 4 1/2 bathrooms, a chef’s kitchen, home office and master suite. The home also features a 3-story entry way, 2-car attached garage, hardwood and concrete floors and breath-taking, city-wide views.
No word on why Golden decided to sell now. Of course, it’s a buyers market, so she probably won’t get the $1,799,900 for which her home is listed. Just last month, her former neighbor, actor Vondie Curtis-Hall dropped the price of his Hollywood Hills home by 21%, from $2,899,000 to $2,295,000. The latter is actually a 36% reduction from the original 2007 listing price of $3,595.00. What a difference a year makes…
But Hollywood Hills isn’t the only celebrity enclave that’s taking a hit in the real estate market. Musician Beck and Actor Cheech Marin each lowered the price of their Malibu homes. Cheech is expected to take a lose of almost $1,000,000, as his 3,500 square foot Malibu home, overlooking the Pacific, has been reduced from $3,900,000 to $2,950,000. Beck only lowered the price of his 1,600 square foot Malibu home listed as “very hip mid-century ranch,” just a baby step, from $2,399,000 to $2,345,000. The reduction is expected to grab the attention of more buyers. But if the intended buyers has 2 hands, 10 fingers and a calculator on their smartphone, they’d see that the Cheech Marin house is a better deal, per square foot, even at over a half of million dollars more.
So, good luck to Golden. With any luck, someone will take the $8,950/month leasing option, granting her time for the real estate market to recovery, before she sells. And hopefully she’ll fair better than her peer, Vondie. But at the rate things are going, her home might fall into my $500,000 budget. And trust, I’ll snatch it up in a heart beat.
