FLASHING LIGHTS: ESSENSE BLACK WOMEN IN HOLLYWOOD

Author: MARLEAUX | Files under FASHION, Flashing Lights

Actresses on every pay-scale came out to the 2nd Annual ESSENCE Black Women In Hollywood Luncheon at The Beverly Hills Hotel on February 19, 2009. Most looked great, though some dropped the ball.

I gave each Sanaa Lathan, Kerry Washington and Jurnee Smollett bested-dressed at the event.

When I first saw Sanaa, I thought her dress looked just pretty, until I took a closer look at the details. The beaded and embroidered lace overlay of her brown sheath was absolutely beautiful.

Kerry wore a feathered skirt, Louis Vuitton ensemble. It’s so chic, though it’s from the same collection as Madonna’s grassy number that landed her on tons of worse dress lists. She paired the dress with leopard print Christian Louboutin wedges. I wouldn’t have thought to pair this shoe, or a wedge, with the ensemble, but it works.

Jurnee was my best-dressed youngster of the event in a vibrant orange dress and multi-colored heels. She looked sophisticated, but still age-appropriate.

Eva Marcelle, Audra McDonalds and Garcelle Beauvais each opted for a black & white, two-in-one, color-block look. Eva wore a BCBG Short Halter Dress with her favorite t-strap platforms. Eva and Garcelle had more than just dress color and style in common, as Garcelle was also wearing a pair of Report Signature shoes, hers the peeptoe version Report Signature Gala Pump. Audra McDonalds went from a more sleek look, with a Tadashi dress made of multiple bands, which she paired with YSL platform pumps.

Vivica Foxx, Megan Goode and Mo’Nique each went for a little sparkle, as each of their dresses were trimmed in beading. Vivica was wearing her favorite Balenciaga shoes, while Megan went for black Giuseppe Zanotti Patent peep toes. Monique feel a little short in the shoe department.

Kenya Moore, Tasha Smith and Sharon Neal were all on-trend with one-shoulder dresses. Kenya would have been my best-dressed in this catagory, if it wasn’t for those played out YSL t-strap sandals. A knock-out pair of strappy sandals or cut-out booties would have been perfect.
