Valeisha Butterfield and Cheryl “Salt of Salt-N-Pepa” James attended DJ Clue and Valeisha’s birthday party at M2 Ultra Lounge in New York City. Initially I thought both ladies looked fabulous, until I took a closer look at the picture.
Let’s start with Salt. While I’ll give her a pass for being the millionth person to wear this Dolce & Gabanna mesh overlay dress, I won’t neglect to point out her granny pumps. But before you decide to execute Salt on her “style” choice, just think of the obstacles she may have faced throughout her day that brought us to this point.
She probably spent the day hunting for the perfect dress, that she was too exhausted to even think about her shoe options within her walk-in closet. She stumbles upon her Sunday School Teacher shoes next to her chest of drawers in her bedroom and goes for the familiar.
If only she made it into that closet.
We all have those days, right? Where we’re too spent to think, so we become content with our comfortable and habitual fashion choices.
For instance, some Saturdays I’ll spend the day beautifying and shopping. Then by the time I’m home, showered and ready to dress, I’m too tired to piece together my fabulous outfit. The colorful, trendy and/or stylish looks that I coordinated in my head are bypassed for my favorite LBD, boots and bag.
Or maybe a stylish lady leprechaun spied Salt twist her ankle on a crack, which caused the heel of Salt’s worn, yet fabulous peep toes to break. The lady leprechaun then took mercy on Salt, and decided to give Salt her pumps, while she hobbled back to her hidden tree house in Central Park. Anything is possible…
Now the later explanation is the most believable for me, as her shoes looks as though they’ve been signed, sealed and delivered by Mrs. Lucky Charms herself.
Or maybe I’m hoping that some how, some way, Salt didn’t purposely wear those “shoes” to the event.
Now Valeisha, on the other hand, had a different issue.
She wore the Herve Leger Colorblock Cross Back Bondage Dress, which retails for $990.00. I’m one who is actually a fan of the HL dress, so while others may think that’s my issue, it’s not. Plus Valeisha looked nice in the dress
Her shoes were also on point. She wore the Christian Louboutin Very Prive Satin Platform Pump, which retail for $795.00. We’re all in agreement that Christian Louboutin are one of the most fabulous shoes on the red carpet right now, so they don’t hold a problem, neccessarily.
Now, my problem is the combination of the two. When I see a pink, fuschia and turquoise dress, the last thing I expect to see is a pair of black, black peep-toes. Especially from the fabulous Valeisha. She’s always on point on th red carpet. This look is a little disappointing, but overall, a cute look.
