Louis Vuitton is suing Nadia Plesner over an illustration from her Simple Living Campaign. Plesner, a 26 year old artist from Denmark launched the campaign in October, 2007 to spread awareness of the travesties in Darfur.
Nadia told TorrentFreak: “I started this campaign because of the distorted way the media prioritizes between big and small world news. How can Paris Hilton make more front covers than the genocide in Darfur? So, I “pimped” a victim, to see if it worked. And it did!”
Vuitton sent Plesner a cease and desist Letter in February, 2008, claiming copyright infringement. Plesner replied stating that the bag pictured with her version of a Darfur victim does not contain the same pattern as the actual Louis Vuitton bag and she will continue using the image in her Simple Living campaign.
“My thought was: Since doing nothing but wearing designer bags and small ugly dogs apparently is enough to get you on a magazine cover, maybe it is worth a try for people who actually deserves and needs attention”
In April, the Vuitton lawyers filed a lawsuit against Plesner, asking for approximately $20,000 a day; $7,500 a day for each, the use of their image in her Simple Life campaign, keeping their letters on her website and publishing the name “Louis Vuitton” on her website.
I say, the image is too close to the original bag, and she should have just changed the design of the bag. But what do you say…
Check out Nadia Plesner’s website where she has published the letters from the Vuitton lawyers for all to see. Also, if you support Plesner, purchase a t shirt there also.

I love her reasoning. And I gotta say that bag looks more the ones I see at the beauty supply store than a real Louis. That’s who they need to be worried about ceasing and desisting! These bootleggers who are actually infringing!

I believe LV could donate the money they are paying their lawyers to sue this young woman to survivors of Darfur and actually be a part of the solution.
