In The Trenches…

Author: MARLEAUX | Files under Runway
Of all the classic pieces of a woman’s wardrobe, my favorite is the trench coat. The trench coat can be your best friend on a fat day or the wrapping on your man’s favorite present. It’s a seasonless piece, which can become more convenient with the option of detachable lining.

Ever wonder about the history of the trench coat? I was reading an excerpt from The Little Black Book of Style by Nina Garcia, where she mentions that the trench coat was invented by Burberry. It read “The trench coat was first created by Thomas Burberry for the British army offices in World War I. It was designed to keep them warm and dry in the trenches…” Upon further investigation, I also found that, “During the First World War, the design of the trench coat was modified to include shoulder straps and D-rings. This latter pattern was dubbed “trench coat” by the soldiers in the front line. Many veterans returning to civilian life kept the coats that became fashionable for both men and women.”

Now, many many years later the trench is still relevant, so much so, that it’s become a staple. Thanks Thomas Burberry. Check out the latest from the Fall 2008 Ready-to-Wear Burberry Prorsum show…

I’m loving the pants that the collection provided. I must find alternates for my corporate wardrobe.

For more Burberry alternates, check my Burbery For All post.

Aquascutum, like Burberry, sheltered soldiers in the trenches. Check out the latest from the Fall 2008 Ready-to-Wear Aquascutum show.

The collection provided lots of looks from asymmetric trimmed coats…

To neutral colored coats…

To the bold and black…

To prints of muted and vibrant tones…

To my favorite belted and feminine militant look…

Stay tuned for the alternates…
