What Does Lolo Want for Christmas?

Author: MARLEAUX | Files under FASHION

Well, unlike most children, us adults don’t need to awake to Christmas presents under the tree. I mean, it does feel nice to ripe open a meticulously wrapping gift in front of the waiting eyes of your loved ones, and the gifter anticipating your reaction. Well, as adults, we don’t always get our presents from under the tree, on Christmas day, or the gifts aren’t even a surprise, but something we’ve chosen ourselves.

My gifts fall under the latter. Usually I start getting texts and phone calls from my gifters asking what I want. I usually respond in a timely manner, and I know what I want exactly. But not this year; it hasn’t been that simple for me.

My boyfriend usually gets me a handbag. After a few years of getting an ipod, digital camera or some other type of device, I moved on to purses. I usually get a bag for my birthday and valentines day, but for Christmas I always get the biggest, or most costly bag. The Christmas bag is usually a nice Dooney Alto or Coach bag priced between $350-$500. With his portion, plus gift contributions from other family members, I figured I”ll get me a nice “it” bag this year.

So when we were walking through Bloomingdale’s last week, I saw this Marc Jacobs Blake bag in camel sitting on the clearance table in the middle of the handbag section. I thought it was placed there especially for me…

So I marched it right over to the price scanner to see how much damage had been deducted from the bag. It was priced on clearance at a whooping $730.00. A steal, right?.

With a big smile on my face, I marched back over to my boyfriend and told him the price. He just kept repeating “Wow, oh wow…” Then he started asking me if it did anything else, and if it came with a wallet and so forth. What should a handbag do besides look nice? It doesn’t even have to hold too many items, or have a handle. It just needs to be pretty, and act as a woman’s arm candy. He was opening the compartments and flipping it over, as if to see if another purse was going to magically fall out of this one… *shaking head* It’s not a Liz Claiborne bag.

I remember about 6 years ago, I bought a Liz Claiborne tote that came with a special compartment for the accompanying umbrella. It was the Rolls Royce Phantom of handbags. He thought LC was a genius for inventing such a multipurpose bag that had an umbrella compartment equipped with waterproof lining. What else could a girl need…

Of course his words totally discouraged me for wanting this bag, or any expensive bag for that matter. This year I was hoping to up my handbag game, and enter 2007 with one of those fabulous “it” bags by Chloe, Marc Jacobs or Miu Miu. But I can’t even visualize swiping my card for a single bag at any of those prices. So instead I might just get two handbags. It’ll be at the same price, but double the options.

By the way, for those hardcore Marc Jacobs Blake fans, this is what you can look forward to for the S/08 accessories line..

A black Blake, with a twist to the handles, and the classic Blake in rose colored leather.

It took me a minute to realize that I was actually thoroughly in love with another bag. Don’t get me wrong, the Blake is a nice bag. One that’s coveted by many fashionistas. But when I’m perusing through the Internet on a daily, or cruising through the mall, I always find myself looking at this bag…

Yes, I’ve become a bag stalker to the Dooney & Burke Logo Lock Satchel. Here are the color options…

I’m thinking about getting the camel or the red. The red is so luscious and bright in person. The medium bag goes for $395.00, right up my alley…

I was thinking of getting a Coach as my second bag, but to tell you the truth, I’m not crazy about anything from the newest collection. I mean how many times can you change the trim on a Hamptons bag.

I’m also thinking of broadening my handbag collection. I want more top handles and clutches. I have my fair share of totes and satchels. Too many to wear on a constant basis. I’m always worried about having both my hands available. That notion is just stupid, especially since I’m not always in a one hand for a drink and one hand for an appetizer situation. Besides, the under arm pit tuck can be seen as a third “arm”.

I came across this cute little MAXX NEW YORK Sonata top handle and fell in love. That’s a good sign right. You need to love anything before you buy it.

I’m contemplating purchasing the Bordeaux color. Plus it’s on sale for only $71.90. A steal compared to the Blake.
When I finally choose my gifts, I’ll blog about it. I already have my gift cards ready, and the checks are cleared. It’s only a matter of me going to purchase. I may even hit the outlets this weekend. Stay tuned…

Handbag shopping is delicious and frustrating at the same time, isn’t it? If only price were no option…
