So finally, our company’s year-end party has come and gone. I really enjoyed myself, and not because I worked the room and looked fab doing so all night. I looove company events. I’m usually the first in-line. The year-end party is our biggest event. And even though its filled with people I hate to see, out of the obligation of having to work, I start anticipating next year’s party after it’s over.
With a week to spare, exactly 7 days, including the weekend, we were finally told the theme. The party was on Wednesday, and we were told the Wednesday before. *sigh* Understand my frustration. I had many obligations that I couldn’t bypass, and the night before the party, I was at the mall looking for an outfit to match the theme. It was really stressful and I didn’t think I would find something fly.
Luckily, I had already somewhat predicted the theme, or maybe the theme was taken from my blog… Yep, our Black & White Cocktail theme was the perfect place to display my Serena inspired look…
But my quest to find a bubble-hem dress was incomplete. It’s such a specific look, and you really need to time to look for that perfect fit. I tried on 3 of these dresses and was equally unhappy will them all.
The first dress was made out of a stiff fabric that didn’t lay properly, if at all. I expected a dress that just flowed to the bottom, and had a blouson effect at the hem, but this one just looked like a Hefty bag. The second had a faux-bubble bottom. Dress number two’s bubble hem was actually elastic lining on the inner side of the dress. It looked really cheap. Dress number three was this Inc number from Macy’s.
It had sequins across the top, which is another huge trend, but with the “trapeze” like drop at the bust-line, I knew it wasn’t the dress for me. Us busty girls don’t do trapeze. *waging finger* Big no-no… But this dress did inspire me.
I decided to follow the sequin trend. The mall was closing and I decided to just try a sequin tank and wear some wide-leg slacks from my closet, but then I came across a knee length sequin dress. It was a perfect fit, but I was really torn. I thought it would be too much for the corporates. I brought the dress to work to show a few of my fashionable coworkers and they urged me to wear it. So this is the result…
Yep, I brought the disco ball to the party. It was black, but it was sparkly… And I did black sheers also.
And I have to say that the corporates brought the business too. There were more than a few Choos and Loubous thrown under tables, while their barefoot owners went wild on the dance floor. And even the frumpies dressed in their best black. Half wasn’t anything I would wear, but I give props when due. I guess a 70’s or Hollywood theme required too much attention, as accountants genetically have no style, but with a simple instruction like “Black and/or White” they got with the program. I was impressed. And I wasn’t the only sequined diva in the place either.
As for the parties entertainment… Now usually we have a talent. Our talent shows are off the hook. But I think that since our company has been purchased by one of the biggest conglomerates in the world, they decided to stop the risqué show. This one year, our IT guy performed Simply Irresistible. He performed in a suite, while some of our highest employees performed in LBD’s and stripper platforms. At the of the performance, they all tore the top of their dress and revealed pasties and keep on shaking. All 7 men, yes men, walked away with first prize of $2,000 each.
But this year, they had a BIG surprise for us. It turned out to be a Dancing With the Stars inspired performance by professional dancers. That was nice. *hunching shoulders* Then they announced “Soulja Boy”. *shaking head* Okay, it was not the actual “rapper”. It was a “hip-hop” dancer from the same company as the other performers for the party.
Now, I have no problem with classically trained dancers, but don’t get on a dance floor and call your self Soulja Boy and twirl in between doing Hip-Hop moves or getting Krump… And sing Gimme More by Britney Spears word for word. No-No. Remember the episode on Will & Grace where they performed Opps I Did It Again by Britney Spears, that’s how our “hip-hop” dancer looked. But the corporates ate it up. One lady was on the executive floor saying how Soulja Boy was there to perform. Bless her heart.
So, our execs got in on the Superman fun. And I have footage of course. Now watching this was really enjoyable. Downright laughable at times… Stay tuned for the video.
